Chapter 1
In my previous life, after learning my husband had a deeply beloved first love he could never forget, I was egged on by my fake bestie. Even though I was already pregnant, I divorced Robert Garcia without looking back.
Ignoring the objections of Robert's parents, I terminated the pregnancy.
Not long after, my identity as a fake heiress in a billionaire family was exposed.
The real heiress was brought home.
Bowing to public pressure, my foster parents kicked me out entirely.
I was forced to return to my biological parents in a remote backwoods village and sold off to the local outcast, an aging bachelor no one wanted.
On my wedding day to that man, my fake bestie showed up dripping in gold and diamonds.
Before leaving, she smirked. "Nancy, you're such an idiot. You had a good man like Robert and actually believed my nonsense enough to divorce him.
"Ending up like this? You deserve it."
Furious, I rushed forward to confront her, only to be hit by a car speeding from behind.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back at the moment I was about to ask Robert for a divorce.
*****
"Nancy, are you sure you want to divorce me?" Robert's familiar, icy voice echoed in my ears.
I jolted awake, suddenly aware of my surroundings, staring at the scene before me.
"If you've made up your mind, I'll respect your choice. I'll talk to my parents, and you can handle yours," Robert said.
As Robert poised the pen over the divorce papers, my pupils constricted.
"Don't!" I blurted out, snatching the papers from under his hand in a flash, before he could sign.
Good thing he hadn't signed.
I was such an idiot in my previous life.
I let that snake's lies mess with my head. I thought that if Robert was still hung up on someone else, staying with him felt humiliating. So I kept asking for a divorce again and again.
At first, Robert thought I was being dramatic and didn't take me seriously.
But when I told him I was in love with someone else, he finally agreed.
The dumbest thing was, to prove I could stand on my own, I refused to take a single cent from him.
Even when he offered me a settlement later, I shot him down every time.
I even went and had an abortion without telling him.
That was my last bit of leverage.
Back then, I snapped, "Robert, do you think you're hot stuff because you've got money? I don't need your cash. I've got myself plenty. If you don't want me, then get lost.
"I'm off to chase my true love."
But those carefree days didn't last. Before I knew it, my adoptive parents' real daughter confronted me, accusing me of stealing her identity.
She claimed I'd been living her life of luxury for twenty-two years.
The shock hit me out of nowhere.
The Stone family kicked me out, and I lost my status as the Stone heiress for good.
After that, my life crashed and burned. Everything went downhill from there.
Now that I had a second shot, love was the last thing I needed. Whoever wanted it could take it.
All I cared about was money, designer clothes, and killer bags.
Love? What was the point? It never did shit for me.
"What's wrong?" Robert frowned.
I gave a couple of awkward laughs. "If I told you I was joking with you, would you buy it?"
Robert fell silent.
I crumpled up the divorce papers and tossed them in the trash. "Pretend everything I said before was nonsense. I promise, I won't bring up divorce again. I'll do my best as Mrs. Garcia and help take care of you."
What mattered most was having more money than I could spend.
Robert looked me up and down, as if trying to figure me out, then gave a quiet nod and turned to head back to his study.
"Wait," I called out quickly.
He stopped in his tracks.
"When I said before that I didn't want your money? I was drunk and talking crazy. Could I get that black card back?" I gritted my teeth and blurted it all out.
He paused for a second. "It's been sitting on your dresser. I haven't touched it."
"Sweet."
I shot straight up to the bedroom, snatched up the black card, and smothered it with kisses.
