Chapter 4

Back in the motel room, I made a decision. We couldn't keep running forever. It was time to fight back for Renee's sake, and for our own.

I dialed my father-in-law Zachary Carter's number.

"Callum?" Zachary sounded weary. "Renee called me last night. She said you two fought, and you ran off with Benjamin. She's worried sick."

My chest tightened. She'd already twisted the story, making me the villain.

"It's not like that, Zachary," I said, forcing calm. "It's Renee... She bought these smart earphones, Aureloo, and now they're controlling her."

There was a long pause on the other end.
