Alexander sat beside her on the sofa, holding her hand and rubbing it soothingly.
"Victoria, don't get upset. Deep breaths."
I ignored their blatant display of intimacy. I walked straight up to the coffee table and slapped the divorce papers down.
"Victoria. I'm divorcing you."
Her face froze for a split second. Then she glanced at the documents and let out a harsh scoff.
"You think a divorce petition is going to scare me into line?" She crossed her arms. "Stop playing games, Ethan. I'm still willing to let you stay. You should be on your knees thanking me."
I looked at her with absolute calm.
"A divorce is the best option for both of us. Let's not make this ugly."
Alexander's eyes lit up with malicious glee.
He pulled Victoria closer and whispered, loud enough for me to hear, "Wow, Victoria, I think he's actually serious. A fresh ex-con has the nerve to ask you for a divorce? You should just toss him out on the street."
Victoria shoved him away in irritation and glared at me.
"Ethan, there is a limit to this bluffing."
Even now, she firmly believed I was playing a psychological game—that I was still the same desperate man who couldn't live without her.
I was done wasting my breath.
"I'll say this one last time. I am divorcing you."
She snatched the papers off the table, ripped them to shreds, and pointed a furious finger in my face.
"You are on my leash, Ethan! You're nothing but my lapdog now! How dare you bring up divorce to me?"
Since she wanted to play it that way, I had no reason to hold back.
I looked down at them, a cold sneer forming on my lips.
"Fine. If we can't settle this peacefully, don't blame me when I tear your lives apart."
