Nora and I returned to the house the next morning.

My attorney had advised me to collect my remaining documents and personal belongings. The house was still jointly owned, so Daniel could not legally keep me out, but I needed a witness.

Nora started recording before we reached the door.

“Take what’s yours. Don’t argue with them. If either one touches you, I’m calling the police.”

Before I could turn my key, the door opened.
