At 9:30 that night, the doctor did a quick check-up on Vivian with his equipment, then took her pulse.

I hovered next to Edward, listening as the doctor said, "Mrs. Blackwood isn't pregnant."

I stared in shock, my mouth falling open. I never thought Edward actually worried enough to check if I was pregnant.

But thinking about it, he'd always looked down on me. Of course he'd be suspicious that I might try to keep something like that from him.
