The night before the surgery, I lay in my hospital bed when my phone buzzed with a message from Jason.

[Whitney, I'll go with you to your prenatal check-up tomorrow.]

I stared at the screen, tears streaming down my face.

If only he was sincere.

The surgery went smoothly, but inside, I felt completely hollow.
