Chapter 3
The healer called me, saying Ethan was badly hurt and needed his mate's signature for surgery. I listened and then hung up without saying a word.
Not long after, Ethan's Beta called, his voice frantic. "Luna, Alpha Ethan's right leg is crushed, his left hand is badly broken, and he's bleeding in his chest.
"We need your signature for surgery. Please come over."
"What's that got to do with me?" I asked.
"Olivia, how can you stand by and watch him die? You're getting more heartless. No wonder Ethan rejected you," Sophia said after snatching the phone from Beta.
When her valley girl voice came through, I couldn't help but roll my eyes in disgust.
"Weren't you supposed to be dead?" I sneered.
There was a pause on the other end before Sophia continued, "Olivia, I know you hate me. If I had the proper standing to sign for Ethan, I wouldn't be begging you."
"What right does a homewrecker like you have to beg me?" I shot back.
"Y-You..." she stammered.
I hung up and blocked all their numbers.

That night, Robert and Elaine, Ethan's mother, visited me.
Robert's face was twisted with anger. "What did you say to Sophia? She's threatening to jump off a building with her pup. They finally managed to get back. Why can't you be a little kind and let them be?"
I didn't care about his attitude at all. I said coolly, "Did I give you too much respect? Made you think I'm easy to push around?
"I haven't dealt with that homewrecker, but I've got plenty of time to deal with you. From tomorrow, you don't need to work for the pack. You're fired.
"As for the resources I gave you access to, I've had the pack cut you off. Don't think about spending another penny of mine."
Back when Robert's pack collapsed, I took them in, turned their losses into profits, gave him a Beta position, and handed him a credit card with a sky-high limit.
No matter how much I tried to win him over with money, he always acted like he was doing me a favor by spending it.
Now, I wouldn't waste another cent on him.
Robert's angry expression froze. He was totally stunned that his always-good daughter would say something like that.
Elaine caught on to my change. She always wore a friendly face while harboring ulterior motives. So she pretended to be heartbroken and said, "No wonder you don't care if Ethan lives or dies.
"You're so heartless. I only agreed to let you become Luna of the Morton Pack because I thought you were kind and respectful.
"But in a few years, you've shown your true colors. You really broke my heart."
I curled my lip. "Enough, old hag. After all the stuff I've given you over the years, you still have the nerve to turn around and play the victim, calling me disrespectful?
"You and Ethan both make me sick. When Ethan was out there begging for deals, I helped him. Now that he's finally made it, he thinks he's untouchable. Does he really think I'm some weakling?"
Ethan thought he finally had the upper hand, so he rushed to bring Sophia and her pup back. But his impatience blew up in his face.
My pup came at the perfect moment. If I hadn't been planning to surprise Ethan, I never would have uncovered everything.
Maybe the Moon Goddess was looking out for me. Either way, I was going to make them pay.
Ethan getting hurt was only the first price they had to pay.
They owed me big, and I'd get back everything a hundred times over.
Elaine looked sullen, but she was always good at putting on an act. She immediately started scolding Ethan. "This is Ethan's fault. Don't worry. I'll make sure he learns his lesson. You're his mate, and I'll never let Sophia and her pup walk over you. You're the only Luna I recognize."
I rolled my eyes and then grabbed a thick stack of photos from the cabinet and shoved them in her face.
