Chapter 1
After a one-night stand, my younger sister, Sophia Brown, ended up pregnant with the pup of my fiancé, Ethan Morton.
On the day of the mating ceremony, she showed up with a baby bump and asked if I, Olivia Brown, could give her pup a real family.
Everyone told me to be the bigger person, saying the pup was innocent. Besides, Sophia and Ethan were in love, and I was standing in their way.
I wasn't having it, and Ethan said nothing. He only had security throw Sophia out.
Later, Sophia died in a car crash, tragically losing both her life and her unborn pup.
Years later, my mate, Ethan, used my resources and connections to make a comeback. He was a rising star in the pack.
After years of trying to conceive, I finally got the news I was pregnant on the day his pack expanded.
Overjoyed, I rushed to him with the wolf pregnancy report, only to overhear him talking to his friend. "Sophia and her pup are back. I can't let them keep hiding anymore. I have to reject Olivia."
*****
Hearing that, I stiffened, my fingers tightening around the wolf pregnancy report.
"But she's stuck by you for years, invested her money and energy to help you rise again. If you reject her now, everyone in the packs will look down on you," his friend said.
Ethan scoffed. "Who would dare look down on me now?"
His friend shrugged. "True, but don't you feel a little guilty? You've been hiding Sophia and her pup for years, telling everyone they died in a car crash.
"Olivia has been eaten up by guilt all this time, and she never realized you've been dosing her with wolf fertility-blocking potion for years."
My heart skipped a beat, like I'd been struck by lightning. My mind went blank.
"Back then, she almost got Sophia and her pup killed. I might not go after Olivia for revenge, but I'll never forgive her," Ethan said.
Through the crack in the door, I saw nothing but hatred and disgust in his eyes.
"Ethan, you'd better watch out. Your mate might've stepped back, but she still has connections. If she found out you betrayed her, she'd burn everything down with you," his friend warned.
Ethan looked full of contempt. "I've cut off all her resources and connections years ago. Now she's only an old she-wolf who can't have a pup."
To him, was I only an old she-wolf who couldn't have a pup?
I gripped the wolf pregnancy report so hard, hatred for Ethan exploding inside me.
Four years ago, my half-sister Sophia barged into my engagement party, sobbing and claiming she was pregnant with Ethan's pup. She begged me to give her pup a real family.
Of course, I refused.
Ethan said it was a mistake and told Sophia to get rid of the pup.
After that, Sophia disappeared.
A few months later, rumors spread through the pack that Sophia had died in a car crash. She and her pup were both gone.
When my dad, Robert Brown, heard the news, he rushed over to that pack territory to see what was going on.
Ethan rushed over that night, too.
They stayed out there for half a month. When Robert finally came back, the first thing he did was slap me twice. He blamed me for Sophia's death and said he was cutting me off for good.
Ethan didn't say anything, but the icy look in his eyes chilled me to the bone.
During that time, I lived in constant fear, worried that my dad and my mate both hated me.
To please them, I handed over part of the pack to Robert and threw all my support behind Ethan, using every connection and resource I had.
In the end, it was all a lie.
Right then, someone called out, "Ma'am, you're here?"
As soon as the words were said, Ethan and his friend both looked up.
For a split second, panic flashed in Ethan's eyes, but he quickly pulled himself together, his voice full of disgust. "Since you already know, I won't bother keeping it a secret.
"I'm rejecting you as my mate. I'll give you 2 million dollars as compensation."
2 million dollars? Did he think that was enough to pay for all the years I wasted on him?
I'd poured countless 2-million-dollar sums into him, way more than I could keep track of. Yet he thought a tiny bit of cash could sweep all his rotten deeds under the rug and erase me.
I sneered, "So you think you're strong enough now? That you can look down on me?"
Ethan frowned, his mind racing, trying to figure out if I had any dirt on him. He didn't say a word for a while.
"I won't let you off that easy." With that, I turned to leave.
Three days later, the Morton Pack's stock price plummeted. The moment it went public, everything unraveled.
I put the word out to every pack member. "Ethan Morton is ungrateful. Anyone who sides with him against me will be my enemy."
