I was startled.

Was this guy a kidnapper or Doraemon?

He somehow got his hostage a cake in the middle of nowhere.

I stammered, "Wait, can I really eat this?"

He replied gruffly, "Yes."

There was another rustling sound, and I thought I heard the scratch of a match.

Through the black cloth, I could make out a flicker of candlelight.

"Make a wish," he said, holding the cake out to me.

I closed my eyes and quietly made a wish.

Then, guided by instinct, I blew out the candles in one breath.
