At nine o'clock on a Monday morning, Jessica and I stood outside the Sunvale County District Attorney's Office.

She wore a dark gray blazer. I had on a black puffer jacket, nothing fancy. I'd picked it up on clearance three years ago.

I took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy glass door.

The prosecutor who met with us was Adrian Langley from the Complaints Division. He looked to be in his mid-thirties, wore glasses, and got straight to the point.
