"Alex, your mom collapsed. She went down right outside the market. The ambulance is here. They're taking her to Central Medical Center."

My mind went completely blank.

The meeting, the project, the numbers, all of it turned to dust.

I stood up and ran.

A coworker called after me. "Alex, the meeting isn't over."

I didn't hear any of it.
