Chapter 1
My parents were the male and female leads in a romance novel.
They were supposed to marry first, then fall in love and live happily ever after.
But in order to win over my dad, a scheming woman, Chloe Sanders, not only tricked my parents into divorce but also caused my mom's death while she was pregnant with me.
Unexpectedly, when I woke up again, I had gone back to when my dad's company was on the verge of bankruptcy, and my mom, misunderstanding that he was cheating, was arguing for a divorce.
"Let's get a divorce," my mom said angrily.
My dad nodded wearily. "Alright, I'll draft the divorce agreement."
I was frantic, my spirit circling around my mom in distress.
'Mom, don't divorce him. Dad isn't cheating, and the company won't go bankrupt. This is all that the scheming woman's plot.
'Dad is the male lead of this world, and you're the female lead. She wants to win him over and replace you, so she set this up to make you misunderstand him.
'After the divorce, she'll have someone trick you into going to Northland, where you'll be tortured until you miscarry, and in the end, you'll even lose a kidney.
'Meanwhile, she'll stay by Dad's side, help him overcome the crisis, successfully win him over, and replace you as the heroine of this world.
'Mom, it's not about fighting over a man. It's about pride. Don't act on impulse.'
My mom froze for a moment, then suddenly burst into tears.
She said, "Fine, divorce it is. I knew you never really loved me, you jerk."

My dad paused for a moment, then gave a bitter, self-mocking smile.
He said, "The company's been having a tough time lately. If you want a divorce, I understand. I'm ready to go along with it whenever you want."
My mom stomped her foot anxiously. "Whether you believe me or not, I didn't mean what I said. I was just upset. I'm not getting divorced."
My dad, thinking my mom was worried, let out a weary sigh. "Don't worry. The house and all our savings are yours. I'll handle the debts. You won't have to deal with any of it."
Seeing that my dad wouldn't give in no matter what, my mom just started making a scene.
She said, "I knew it. If my dad hadn't guilt-tripped you, you never would've married me.
"You're so quick to agree to a divorce. Have you been wanting a divorce this whole time?"
At that thought, my mom had real tears streaming down her face.
My dad looked even more defeated and worn out.
He asked, "What exactly do you want? Can't you just tell me straight?"
My dad's attitude made my mom even more furious.
But instead of blowing up like she usually would, my mom held back her temper and said, "Someone messaged me, saying you slept with an influencer, and they even sent me photos."
My dad sneered, "Where are the photos?"
"They're on my phone."
My mom quickly grabbed her phone from the dining table and opened her photo album.
But instead of my dad with some influencer chick, the photo was of a seriously buff dude.
"Shit!" My mom was so startled she almost dropped her phone.
She tried to explain, "I swear I'm not lying. The photos I got before were of you and some influencer kissing in a hotel hallway. I have no idea how it ended up as this."
My dad sneered at my mom, clearly not believing her story.
Since my mom couldn't prove she was telling the truth, she just stubbornly refused to back down. "I don't care. I'm not getting divorced, that's final."
I gave her a thumbs-up. 'Mom, nice job. It's not about the man. It's about pride. You should refuse to leave and drive Chloe, the scheming woman, crazy.'
The more Chloe tried to take my mom's place, the more determined I was not to let her get her way so easily.
But my mom was acting as if nothing had happened, as she did in my previous life.
Wait, could she have been back, too?
My dad shot my mom a few emotionless glances, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
He said, "Whatever. Just tell me when you want the divorce, and I'll cooperate whenever.
"I'm crashing in the guest room tonight. The master bedroom's all yours."
My dad said as he headed into the master bedroom, grabbed his pajamas, and went to shower in the guest bathroom.
My mom looked like she was about to cry, and I couldn't help but start bawling, too.
I expressed my thoughts to my mom, 'Looks like we're still screwed. Dad must think Mom's just putting on a show, and now he's totally crushed.
'But that's not even the worst part. The real disaster is...
'What if Mom gets so mad she decides to beat me up? Then wouldn't all my efforts have been in vain?
'Please, Mom, don't kill me. Just let me be born, okay? Then you can squeeze Dad for loads of child support and live it up as a rich single lady.'
My mom couldn't help but laugh and shake her head.
She glanced down at her belly and said gently, "Don't worry, sweetie. Mommy's not gonna kill you, okay?"
I was so happy that I started zipping around everywhere.
'Awesome. Mom's not gonna kill me. Guess my effort wasn't a total waste after all.
My mom let out a little laugh. "Don't worry. I won't let your effort go to waste."
I nodded eagerly. 'That's great.'
Wait a sec, something was wrong.
How was my mom actually responding to me?
Could she really hear my inner thoughts?
