Chapter 3
The folder slid across the floor and stopped at Arthur's feet.
Arthur kept his eyes locked on it, but wouldn't pick it up.
"What's that?" Grace demanded, her voice sharp.
Dominic let out a cold laugh.
"A fake itinerary. Someone tipped off the killers about Logan's route.
"And that piece of paper has Beverly's perfume all over it," he said.
The whole hall gasped.
Beverly let out a shriek, her face going pale.
"You're lying! You're setting me up," she screamed.
Arthur jumped in front of her to block her.
"Dominic, don't you dare throw around accusations like that. Beverly didn't do anything," he shouted.
Watching Logan bend over backward to protect his lover made me sick to my stomach.
"Wow, Arthur, you're so loyal. You'd defend the one who might've murdered your own brother," I said with a sneer.
Arthur whipped around and glared at me.
"Shut your mouth, Joanna. Nobody asked for your opinion," he snapped.
Dominic moved in front of me, blocking them off.
"Joanna, say the word, and I'll burn this whole estate to the ground," he said, his voice low.
I looked at him and shook my head.
"Forget it. I'm staying.
"I'm going to take back everything my pup is owed," I said.
Dominic nodded, approval flashing in his eyes.
"Fine. If you need anything, call me," he said.
He turned and walked out with his men.
The hall went dead quiet again.
I didn't look at anyone. I went straight to Logan's bedroom.
When I opened the door, the room was packed with his personal things.
I called a few servants over.
"Take all of this. The clothes, the watches, the custom suits. Dump all in the yard," I ordered.
The servants looked at each other, too nervous to move.
"I was Logan's mate. What I say goes. Now move," I shouted.
The servants scrambled to haul everything out.
I lit a fire in the yard.
Expensive suits, watches, and designer fabrics all went up in smoke.
Arthur and Beverly came running outside.
"Have you lost your mind? What are you doing?" Arthur let out a horrified scream as he watched his suits burn.
Those were his favorite custom pieces.
I gave him a cold, blank stare.
"Why are you so worked up, Arthur?
"I'm burning my dead mate's belongings. What's it to you?" I asked.
Arthur realized he'd slipped up and tried to get himself under control.
"I'm grieving for Logan. He loved these things," he argued.
Beverly jumped in to pour fuel on the fire.
"Joanna, you're so heartless. Logan hasn't been gone for a day, and you're already trashing everything he cared about.
"You never loved him," she said.
I kicked an expensive vase straight into the flames.
"Love? He didn't deserve it.
"He couldn't protect his mate and pup. He was a loser. What's the point of holding onto this junk?" I shot back.
Arthur's jaw muscles twitched like crazy.
Logan, the real guy behind that face, wanted to tear me apart, but he had to keep pretending to be Arthur.
Then a bunch of cars came tearing into the estate.
Armed wolf enforcers jumped out and walked straight up to me.
"Joanna, you're under suspicion for the murder of Logan and for embezzling funds from the Sterling Group.
"You need to come with us," one of them said.
I stood there frozen.
"What did you say?" I asked.
The enforcer pulled out a bloody dagger.
He explained, "This is the murder weapon. It was found at the scene, and it has your fingerprints on it.
"And a large amount of money from the Sterling Group's accounts was transferred to your offshore account."
With a sharp click, the enforcer snapped the cold handcuffs around my wrists.
"You're under arrest," he added.
