I woke with tubes everywhere, utterly drained.

Machines beeped. Needles in my arm, one thick.

The milk had been drugged. Carlo had decided on the way.

Behind a curtain, a frail voice. "Carlo, you did this for me. What if Miss Carter leaves you?"

Carlo's voice was ice. "I didn't do it for you. I don't want Aylin feeling guilty. She'll understand. We won't break up."

The girl was quiet for a few seconds. Then she spoke again, "So much blood. I'm scared. Can you hold me?"
