Chapter 4

Nathan’s last words followed me into the darkness.

“If her pressure becomes unstable, use the backup protocol.”

Cold traveled from my wrist to my shoulder.

The surgical lights blurred above me.

My arms grew heavy against the table, and the voices around me began to stretch and fade.

I had already restored my allergy warning with Dr. Hale.

Whatever Nathan had changed in the original form could no longer hurt me.

At least, that was what I believed.

A side door opened.

“Is she under?” a man asked.

“Almost,” the anesthesiologist replied.

A nurse moved closer.

“Where is Dr. Hale?”
