He stared at me, visibly stunned.

“Elena?”

Nate started toward me.

He had changed a lot in five years.

But I still recognized him instantly.

His eyes lingered on my pale face for a moment, then dropped to the papers in my hand.

He didn’t ask what had happened.

“Are you here alone?”

“Yes.”

“I’ll drive you home.”

I almost refused.

But I still felt weak from the procedure.

So I nodded.

Nate barely spoke after we left the hospital.
