Chapter 5

The morning after I left the house, my suitcase and overnight bag took up most of the floor in Tessa's guest room.

Tessa was an old friend and the first person who had answered when I called the night before.

I had slept for less than two hours.

Tessa appeared in the doorway with coffee and reminded me that her daughter would return on Wednesday.

"You can stay tonight and tomorrow night."

"That's enough."

It had to be.

She sat beside me on the bed while I tried to open the joint banking account again.

My access was still blocked.
