My face went pale. "No, please!" I choked out, the panic tight in my throat.

But Rachel was already whimpering, holding up her finger where the frame had nicked her. "Ouch, that really hurts!" she cried, playing the victim perfectly.

Michael's face tightened with worry the second he saw the blood.

"Rachel, you're bleeding. I'll take you to the hospital right now," Michael blurted out, his tone full of urgency.
