Chapter 2
Dahlia had added me on social media ages ago. She was always provoking me, both openly and behind the scenes.
One day, she'd flaunt a limited-edition bag Wesley had bought her. Next, she'd post photos of them having a meal in matching outfits.
I never responded. I only treated her like an online pet.
Actually, she wasn't the first girl Wesley cheated with. But she was hands down the most memorable one.
The first time I met her was because of a fender bender. She rear-ended me.
She got out of a brand-new Porsche Panamera. Her eyes were red as she acted all innocent. "Sorry, miss. I'm Dahlia Frost. I'm new to driving. I really have no idea what I'm doing. Is it okay if my boyfriend takes care of it?"
Seeing how polite she was, I gave her a slight nod. That time, I was driving Wesley's car.
The car broke down, Wesley said he'd handle it, but he kept putting it off for months.
I started blowing up Wesley's phone, but every time, he'd instantly hang up as soon as he answered.
After I called him over ten times, he finally picked up. "I'm busy. Call me later."
He hung up again before I could get a word in.
I shot Dahlia a look. She tapped her phone and dialed Wesley's number. The call went through instantly.
Refusing to back down, I tried calling him again. A cold message popped up. I'd been blocked.
Dahlia whined sweetly, "Hurry up and come over. I got into a crash."
I had no idea what Wesley said on the other end, but she pouted and cooed, "Take your time, and drive safe."
She hung up and flashed me a grin. "My boyfriend's in the city center. It'll probably take him about half an hour to get here."
We waited at a nearby coffee shop.
To my surprise, he showed up in ten minutes, when it should've taken half an hour.
Seeing Wesley rush in, I froze on the spot.
Dahlia threw herself into Wesley's arms. She wrapped herself around his arm, whining sweetly. "I'm sorry. Last time, I crashed the Bentley you gave me into a tree. And now, the new car you got me got wrecked on its very first day out."
Wesley's eyes were full of worry and tenderness as he comforted her. "You're already so brave for driving on your own. The car doesn't matter. What matters is that you're safe."
Hearing Wesley speak so softly, I couldn't help but remember back then, if I took a tumble and got a little scrape, he'd freak out and insist on carrying me straight to the hospital.
I didn't know when it happened, but that gentle side of his wasn't for me anymore.
Seizing the moment while Dahlia was in the restroom, Wesley pulled me aside. "Don't let Dahlia know about what's between us, alright? I don't want her to get upset. She's super naive, and this time, I really mean it."
Back when his mistresses would show up at our door, he'd always step in front of me without hesitation.
He'd grab them by the throat and demand, "Abigail is my wife. Who the hell do you think you are? How dare you dirty her sight?"
I used to foolishly believe he was standing up for me because there was still something real between us.
I did everything I could to bring back the man he used to be. I cried, made a scene, and threatened to end it all.
At that moment, I couldn't help but find it all laughable.
I pulled away from him. "If you're really serious about her, then you should make it official."
