My tears spilled over despite myself.

Andrew rushed over and touched my belly. Realizing my six-month bump was gone, he stood there, stunned and pale.

I smiled through tears, "The baby is gone. Want to know why?"

His face froze. He lifted his eyes to mine, wide with fear, his lips trembling.

"Because that night, you threw me out so you could be with Cassie while she gave birth. I got hit by a motorcycle—drunk driver didn't even realize he'd hit me, just sped off. Isn't that hilarious?"

My laugh was half-crazy, half-broken.
