It was the eighteenth day after I gave birth.

Exactly one week had passed since I moved out.

David came to my mom's house.

He stood at the door, holding two boxes of meals for new moms and a box of diapers.

My mom opened the door.

"Mrs. Carter, I'm here to see Emily and the baby," David said.

My mom blocked the doorway, refusing to let him in.

"The baby's perfectly fine. She doesn't need you checking on her," she replied coldly.
