Chapter 3

She threw herself into James’s arms, pointing at me and sobbing.
“Husband! You’re finally here! This crazy woman is impersonating you!”
“She even attacked me! If you hadn’t come, this lunatic would have beaten me to death!”
She pointed to her severely swollen face, crying a river of tears.
“Look at my face! Look what she did to me!”
Director Miller immediately scurried over, nodding in agreement.
“Yes, Mr. James, this woman is completely out of control!”
“First, she caused a huge scene in the room, refusing to listen to Head Nurse Tiffany’s professional advice. Then, she started assaulting people! We couldn’t stop her!”
“Look, Head Nurse Tiffany’s face and hand are both injured!”
James listened to them, his brows tightly knit.
He reached out, gently caressing Tiffany’s swollen cheek, his voice filled with tender concern.
“There, there, don’t cry. I’m here now. No one will ever bully you again.”
He softly comforted Tiffany in his arms, his affectionate demeanor making them look like a loving couple.
His gaze never even brushed over me for a single second.
I watched the scene unfold, my heart clutched by an invisible hand, making it impossible to breathe.
After calming Tiffany, James finally turned his gaze towards me.
I was still pinned to the ground by security, my hair disheveled, my face covered in swollen slap marks, utterly humiliated.
James didn’t recognize me at all.
He spoke impatiently: “Call the police.”
“The police?”
Tiffany immediately shrieked, clutching James’s arm tightly.
“No! Husband, calling the police is too easy on her!”
“She beat me like this and dared to impersonate your wife—she deserves to die!”
“I want her to disappear from Newport City forever! I want her to pay the most horrific price for what she did today!”
James frowned, a flicker of hesitation in his eyes.
He seemed to think Tiffany’s demands were a bit extreme and tried to gently dissuade her.
“Tiffany, don’t make a scene.”
Tiffany violently pushed James away, pointing at her severely swollen face and yelling at him.
“I’m making a scene? James! Look at my face! Look at my hand!”
“I was beaten like this, and you’re actually taking her side?”
“Did you forget what you promised me? You said you’d listen to anything I said if I was with you!”
“You said you’d do anything for me!”
“Are you going to go back on your word for this… this woman now?!”
A flicker of helplessness and internal struggle crossed James’s face.
Ultimately, he chose to compromise.
He sighed heavily, pulling Tiffany back into his embrace.
“Alright, as you wish.”
Then, he turned to the two black-suited bodyguards behind him and gave his command.
“Handle it cleanly. Don’t cause me any trouble.”
Hearing those words, my heart died completely.
I couldn't help but laugh.
The man I deeply loved was ordering my death for an unsophisticated mistress.
My laughter seemed to annoy James, and he frowned in disgust, motioning for the bodyguards to act quickly.
Just as the bodyguards’ hands were about to reach me, I roared with all my strength:
“James!”
“Open your damn eyes and look!”
“Who am I?!”
James instinctively looked closer at me.
The moment he recognized my face, his complexion completely changed.
He violently pushed Tiffany away from him, stumbling towards me.
“Sum… Summer?”
“Wife… is that you? How can it be you?”
He rushed to my front, wanting to help me, but the icy coldness and hatred in my eyes scared him from reaching out.
He fell to his knees with a thud, frantically slapping himself.
“Slap! Slap! Slap!”
“Wife, I was wrong! I was truly wrong!”
“It’s all this… this conniving woman! She seduced me! I have nothing to do with her!”
He pointed at the stunned Tiffany behind him, desperately trying to distance himself.
“Believe me, you’re the only one in my heart, Summer!”
I looked at his pathetic and ridiculous charade, my heart icy cold, completely unmoved.
I told him, word by word, clearly.
“James.”
“We’re over.”
My resolve hit him like a bucket of ice water, extinguishing his last shred of hope.
His facade crumbled instantly.
He stopped all movement, his expression slowly morphing from panic and pleading to sinister and vicious.
