Chapter 4
Not long after, the family doctor came to change my bandages.
He was halfway through when Charles called him away.
I gave a wry smile at myself and waved him off, telling him to hurry along and that I could take care of the rest myself.
To help Jessica settle in, Charles had the housekeeper, driver, and even a few bodyguards sent over one by one.
He brought her son along too, probably so they could spend some time together.
As he was leaving, the bodyguard reminded me, "Mrs. Weston, remember to rest well and don't go outside, please."
The Weston Manor was heavily guarded. Not only were there bodyguards everywhere, but there were also plenty of hidden contraptions and traps.
After all, Charles had dominated the business world for years, collecting more than his share of enemies along the way.
Just to keep revenge at bay, he shelled out millions every year on keeping the place secure.
Yet with a single lie from Jessica—claiming someone had been stalking her recently—Charles immediately pulled all his people to protect her, without sparing a second thought for my safety.
But actually, this played right into my hands.
Once everyone had cleared out, I noticed Jessica had updated her alt account again.
She posted a picture of herself lying in a hospital bed, with Charles next to her, peeling an apple.
Her caption went: [They say every high-flying CEO has that one unforgettable girl in his heart. Guess what? I'm the lucky one.]
I gave it a like.
Jessica sent me a message.
[Whether it's Samuel or Charles, all it takes is a flick of my finger, and they'll cast you aside without a second thought.]
[Honestly, you're just pathetic.]
I ignored her and called Charles.
But he immediately hung up on me.
A few minutes later, he finally texted back: [You should really take some time to think about it. When you're ready to apologize to Jessica, then we'll talk.]
Not once did he mention the overseas call or slapping me.
I gave a cold snort and strode out of the Weston Manor without looking back.
As soon as I drove up to the villa, I ran into the kidnappers who were rushing to the place as well.
The staff at the manor only caught sight of a car stopping next to me. Someone yanked a bag over my head and stuffed me into the trunk.
Before anyone could even react, I had already vanished.
Once in the car, they yanked the bag off my head right away.
The head kidnapper, Frank, had been working the underground scene in Southeast Azia for years.
Frank gave a soft laugh when he saw me. "Looks like fate really keeps throwing us together. Three years back, they killed your son and blamed it on me. Three years later, we became partners."
"Didn't you say Jessica has a son?" he added.
I sent Frank the file from my cloud drive. "Bring this to Jessica. Forget 30 million. With this, even if you ask for 300 million, she'd have no choice but to say yes."
Meanwhile, at the villa, the butler immediately called Charles.
He blurted out, "Mr. Weston, Mrs. Weston has been kidnapped.
"And she might've found out about the child too."
Charles was shocked.
His assistant stepped aside, giving him some space to think.
After a moment, he laughed. "Helen really thinks she's clever, huh? All this drama over jealousy—and she'd go so far as to fake a kidnapping? Is she not afraid someone will see through her?"
The butler sounded completely shocked. "Mr. Weston, we watched Mrs. Weston get dragged away by a bunch of men in black, right before our eyes."
Jessica let out a dramatic sigh. "Who knew Helen could be such a firecracker? Going that far just to make you pay attention. Does she even know that making up a fake kidnapping is literally a crime?
"Charles, what are you going to do?"
Charles lit a cigarette, taking a deep drag. "You're telling me Mrs. Weston got kidnapped, but wasn't she still at the Weston Manor? How on earth did she end up at the villa?"
The butler couldn't come up with an answer.
