The next morning, I was packing an overnight bag when Ethan's phone lit up on the kitchen counter.

He was upstairs in the shower.

Lydia Shaw: You kissed me back.

My hand stopped on the zipper.

A second message appeared.

I shouldn't have done that.

When Ethan came downstairs, his hair was wet. He saw the bag first.

"You're leaving?"

I pointed at his phone.

"Did you kiss her?"

His eyes dropped to the screen.

One second passed before he looked at me again.

"Ethan."

He locked the phone.

"It was one kiss."

"When?"

"Last night. After the meeting."
