I lowered my phone to my lap and looked across the spare room. "Dr. Evans wants me back at the clinic today."

Naomi grabbed her car keys from the nightstand. "Let's go. I'm driving."

We sat in the same small consultation room thirty minutes later. The dull ache beneath my bandage throbbed, a constant reminder of the needle biopsy. Dr. Evans walked in holding a folder and sat across from me.

"The pathology report came back," Dr. Evans said. "The biopsy confirms you have invasive breast cancer."
