Chapter 5

Brooke’s voice came through the laptop first.

“After the wedding, are you really going to ask her to move out?”

Grant’s hand stopped inches from the computer.

On the recording, he answered, “I’m only going to ask her for some space. She’ll be calmer once the ceremony is over.”

“What if she says no?”

“Mara won’t make a scene. She’ll wait while I figure things out.”

Brooke’s next question came quietly.

“What about the kiss?”

Grant closed his eyes.

A brief rustling sound played through the speakers before his recorded voice returned.

“It was a mistake.”
