Chapter 5

Edward leaned down and kissed me.

I caught a flicker of surprise in his eyes. He was probably wondering why my lips felt so cold.

Just as Edward was about to take things further with me, Rachel's weak voice drifted in from outside.

Rachel called out, "Edward? Edward, where are you?"

She sounded frail. "I'm not feeling well. My stomach hurts. Can you take me to the hospital?"

Edward froze, lowering his head as his eyes locked onto me, emotions hidden deep yet surging fiercely beneath the surface.
