Chapter 3
"Neville, I'll help you fulfill your dreams, and I'll wait for you to fall for me. Can you give me a chance?" I said.
The sunset was a faint red that day. The young man leaned down and gently kissed my cheek. "Okay."
And so, we began our relationship.
To help him enter the business world, I secretly used family resources to pave his way.
He became famous at a young age with a successful business investment, becoming a hot new star in the business world.
Initially, even though our relationship wasn't deep, he was still respectful, understanding, and caring toward me.
While he built his career, I always stayed by his side.
To help him with business entertaining, I drank for him, vomited uncontrollably on the streets late at night, and even ended up in the hospital with stomach bleeding once.
At that time, he held my hand and said tenderly, "Sirena, let's get married. I will achieve success, and even if I can't love you, I will never hurt you."
Twelve years passed, and we were rarely together. When we met again, he only felt annoyed with me.
Countless harsh words pierced me like sharp knives.
Tasha's pregnancy test report was the final blow. It shattered what was left of my heart—the one that still loved him after all this time.
I smiled with tears in my eyes and messaged him back: [Neville, let's get divorced.]
The next morning, Neville still hadn't replied to my message. I suspected he couldn't even be bothered to read my messages.
And Tasha updated her Instagram again.
She had her long hair tied up, her neck was slender, and she wore a pure black custom-made gown. The necklace she wore around her neck looked very familiar to me—it was an emerald necklace. The emerald gleamed coldly in the sun; it was the only heirloom my mother had given me.
My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly opened the safe.
Sure enough, the emerald necklace was gone.
A sudden chill ran through me. Only Neville knew the safe's password besides me.
I grabbed my car keys and rushed to the business dinner venue.
When I arrived, Neville was greeting the business elites around him and didn't notice me at all.
Tasha saw me, however. She walked toward me, proudly fiddling with the emerald necklace around her neck. "Sirena, why did you come so disheveled? You look just like a haggard old woman," she said disdainfully. "You're truly inferior to me in every way.
"You just met Neville a few years before me, yet you became his wife. But now you're just an old, ugly, haggard woman. How dare you show your face at such an important event? Leave quickly, before someone takes a picture."
I watched her playing with my necklace, and anger flared up instantly. I raised my hand and slapped her. "My necklace. Give it back immediately!"
Tasha let out a cry of surprise, covered her face, and pretended to fall to the ground.
Neville saw the injured Tasha through the crowd.
He quickly ran over, scooped Tasha into his arms, and stared at me with icy eyes. "Sirena, are you crazy?! Who allowed you to hit her?"
I looked at him and said coldly, "She provoked me; she deserved it! Neville, how could the necklace my mother gave me be on her neck?"
Tasha feigned grievance. "It's all my fault. I couldn't find a necklace that matched this dress. I heard you had an emerald necklace, and Neville said it suited me well, so he brought this necklace..."
I looked at Neville in disbelief, my heart aching so much I could barely breathe. "You took my mother's keepsake to please her?"
Even though I knew that he had cheated and even had a child with another woman last night, I never imagined he would treat me this way.
My grandma once warned me not to reveal my family background, but I told him that my mom had passed away to protect me.
How could he give away the only memento my mom left me?
Neville shielded Tasha, questioning me angrily, "Is that necklace very precious? Once it's in my house, it's mine. I can give it to anyone I want; do I need your permission?
"Everything you have is because of me! How dare you talk to me like that?"
Before he finished speaking, I slapped him.
Neville didn't dodge and took the slap directly.
Tasha screamed and quickly shielded him. "Are you out of your mind? You hit him over a stupid necklace? He's a business tycoon! Do you have any idea how important his face is?"
"Are you not done making a fool of yourself?" Neville ripped the emerald necklace from Tasha's neck and furiously threw it at me. "Here's your pauper mother's glass beads. If Tasha hadn't liked it, did you really think I'd take it?
"Take your necklace and get out of here!"
The emerald necklace clattered to the floor, its gems scattering everywhere.
As the central gem shattered, it felt like our broken relationship was beyond repair.
I finally broke down, my spirit utterly crushed, and grabbed a dinner plate, throwing it at him. "Neville, you are despicable!"
The security guards quickly grabbed me. Neville was furious, saying, "Sirena, I am powerful and wealthy now, and I'm still keeping your position as Mrs. Stevenson open. Don't be ungrateful!"
How ridiculous! His status was built up by my connections.
I looked at him and said coldly, "I don't need your charity. We're getting divorced. I will make you know what it means to have nothing!"
