Chapter 4
Lately, something strange has been going on with me.
Every couple of days, I'd notice a pair of my underwear missing. At first, I just thought I was being careless when I cleaned up.
But after it kept happening, I started to get suspicious.
There weren't any cameras in my room, and I even checked all the security cameras around the house. I found nothing weird at all.
I kept turning it over in my head, but seriously, who the hell would be creepy enough to steal my underwear? No way it was someone living here.
There were only a few maids around, and then Grayson.
I instantly shook my head.
It was definitely not him.
Over breakfast, I just threw it out that maybe we had a thief or something.
Grayson paused mid-bite.
"What did you lose?" he asked.
"My underwear," I replied.
Grayson choked on his porridge, coughing hard.
His usually cool expression turned awkward.
"Why are you acting so weird?" I gave him a suspicious side-eye.
"Don't tell me you actually know who's stealing my underwear, and you're covering for some creep?" I shot back.
Grayson's fingers clenched nervously.
He retorted, "What do you want to do about it?"
"I'm putting up more cameras. I want to catch whoever's doing this," I said.
"It's not just making my skin crawl. It's a real security risk," I added.
Right now, it was just my underwear. Who knew what they'd try next?
"Alright, I'll get someone to handle it," Grayson said.
He nodded seriously, and the last bit of doubt I had about him just melted away.
Seriously, what was I thinking? Suspecting a stick-in-the-mud like him? I must be losing my mind.
I changed the subject and brought up something else.
"You got anything going on tonight?" I asked. "There's something I need to discuss with you."
I'd already had my lawyer buddy whip up the divorce agreement. We had no kids, so it was all sorted in a flash.
"Is that all you wanted to talk about?" Grayson asked.
He sounded way too cheerful for the whole divorce talk.
He gave me a little smirk, and I could feel my cheeks getting hot again.
Right then, his phone buzzed—his assistant was calling about some emergency at work.
He just shoved a couple of bites in and bolted.
Before heading out, he shot me a quick look and promised, "I'll be back soon."
After he left, I touched my burning cheeks.
I told myself that it was totally normal.
Any girl would blush if a hot guy looked at her like that.
After lunch, I was staring at my design sketches, totally stuck, when Lily called.
"Hey, I just ran into two seriously hot male models today. I'm sending them your way," Lily said. "Aren't I the best wingwoman ever?"
"No thanks, I'm really not in the mood right now," I replied.
Lily snorted, "Please, you need it more than anyone."
I felt my face heat up.
Lately, I'd been feeling so out of it that I even went to see a doctor.
The doctor really beat around the bush.
"Maybe you should try to see someone," he said, giving me a knowing look.
Little did he know I was already married.
When Lily found out, she totally went off on Grayson, saying he was hopeless.
She even swore she'd round up a whole squad of hotties to wait on me hand and foot.
Honestly, I was floored. Lily really went all out and managed to find two hotties for me in just a couple of days.
"Nah, I'm good. I'm stressing over the R series jewelry designs right now," I said.
Plus, I was still married to Grayson. Sure, I was planning to find myself a guy, but only after I was officially single.
I did have some standards, after all.
But Lily had no idea what was actually on my mind.
Lily teased, "That means you need it even more. Your whole design theme is about mixing tough and tender vibes, right?
"These two are just what you need—one's a total powerhouse, the other's the sweet type.
"Inspiration comes from life, right? They'll totally help you get your creative juices flowing."
"It's settled," Lily declared, not giving me a chance to argue.
Then she hung up on me in a flash and shot over two pics and a text: [They'll be there soon.]
When those photos popped up, my resolve crumbled instantly.
Both guys were total standouts. Maybe they'd really get my creative juices flowing.
I decided to hold off on sketching until they arrived, so I took a quick nap.
I dreamed I was locked in a heated tangle with someone, neither of us willing to let go.
I couldn't make out his face, but there was something about him that felt so familiar.
His voice rang a bell, and the way he held me felt like I'd known it forever.
His hot breath tickled my ear as he pulled me closer, and together, we sank into a tide of desire.
And then, slowly, his face started to come into focus.
He called my name, his voice low and husky. "Sophie."
It was Grayson.
I jolted awake, my ears burning red.
I couldn't believe I just had such a steamy dream, and the guy was Grayson, of all people.
It was so humiliating.
I splashed some water on my face, then headed downstairs to grab something to drink.
But just as I got to the top of the stairs, I suddenly heard someone howling their heart out.
"I saw it all. She liked three muscle guys' posts in a row."
It was Grayson, crying his heart out.
