Chapter 5

At eight forty-five the next morning, I stood outside the bank with my inheritance account statement folded inside my purse.

I had not slept.

Daniel had come downstairs after his shower and found me drinking water in the kitchen. I had returned his contract to the briefcase before he saw me.

He kissed my forehead as if nothing had happened.

"You'll feel differently after some rest," he said.

Now he believed I was home reconsidering my decision.

The bank opened at nine.
