Chapter 3
I couldn't sleep all night. Everything that happened over these past two days had completely overwhelmed me, but I forced myself to face it.
The next morning, Tristan came to see me with breakfast, noticing the dark circles under my eyes.
"Honey, did you not rest well again last night?"
Tristan asked with concern.
"The food here at the hospital doesn't suit your tastes, so I brought you some breakfast you like."
I nodded, no longer resisting his care as I did yesterday.
Seeing that I was much calmer, Tristan finally felt relieved.
The nurse nearby couldn't help but praise him, "Mr. Yates is so thoughtful—handsome, caring toward his wife, and even delivers breakfast first thing in the morning."
Tristan smiled indifferently and gently tucked my stray hair behind my ear.
"Because my wife deserves to be treated this well by me," he said.
My heart skipped a beat, and with no appetite, I set down my knife and fork. "I'm full."
"I'm full."
Tristan nodded and replied affectionately, "Alright."
He took the lunchbox, saying he was going to wash it, and I quietly followed him.
Sure enough, Sophie was waiting for him at the corner. As soon as they met and exchanged a couple of words, I rushed out.
"Honey, is she that classmate of yours?!"
Before either of them could react, I slapped Sophie right away.
"You bitch, how dare you hit me!"
Sophie cursed and tried to fight back, but Tristan stopped her.
He was caught in the middle and helplessly said to me, "Honey, why did you just hit her like that?"
Compared to Sophie's anger, I just pouted in grievance.
"I always felt you were close to her, and now seeing her here—are you up to something while I'm pregnant?" I said.
Tristan hurried to reassure me. "I just ran into Sophie. She came to get some medicine."
"What kind of medicine do you get from obstetrics?"
I pressed on, refusing to back down.
Tristan desperately signaled Sophie, whose face turned pale with anger, but she managed to restrain herself
She said, "At gynaecology, what illness do you think I'd have? It's obviously a gynaecological issue!"
Tristan said, "Calm down, honey. This is all a misunderstanding. If you don't want me to talk to her, I won't. Let me help you back."
Tristan left Sophie behind and focused all his attention on me, helping me back to the hospital room.
I glanced provocatively at Sophie. She angrily threw the medicine she was holding to the floor.
"Honey, I just saw that the medicine she had wasn't for gynecological issues."
I pretended to speak casually to Tristan.
Tristan looked a little nervous and tried desperately to change the subject. "You're not a doctor. How would you know what that medicine is for?"
"You're right. I was too impulsive just now. What if I upset Sophie and she tries to get back at me?" I pretended to be scared and grabbed his hand.
I pretended to be scared and grabbed his hand.
Tristan patted my hand, signaling me to relax.
"You're pregnant, so it's natural to be emotionally sensitive and easily upset. I believe Sophie, as a fellow woman, will understand you. Besides, she isn't the petty type," he said.
I nodded and lowered my head, saying nothing more.
However, I could tell that Tristan was worried and took even greater care of me.
While Tristan was in the bathroom, I took out the abortion pills I had prepared in advance and swallowed them with a determined gulp.
Then I rushed straight to the VIP ward in the hospital, and just as I expected, Sophie was there.
Sophie said, "You shameless woman, how dare you come here?"
Sophie was still angry about the slap I gave her; when she saw me at the door, she abruptly stood up.
I stood at the doorway with my pregnant belly, glancing at the little boy lying on the hospital bed.
"This poor child. Having a mother who loves being a homewrecker. He's truly unlucky," I said.
Once I gave up on Tristan, I was no longer vulnerable, and Sophie couldn't bully me anymore.
"Are you crazy, coming here just to cause trouble?" Sophie gritted her teeth, her eyes fierce as if she wanted to tear me apart.
Sophie gritted her teeth, her eyes fierce as if she wanted to tear me apart.
I said, "Am I not telling the truth? You saw it yourself. Tristan treats you like a treasure behind the scenes, but in front of me, he won't even look at you.
"I'm carrying the Yates family's child, and he will take Tristan's last name, so everyone will know he's Tristan's son.
"Sophie, you're just Tristan's distraction when he's bored. He'll never marry you."
This sentence instantly set Sophie off; she screamed, completely ignoring the child lying beside her.
