Chapter 1
1.1. Meeting Darkness
~Roselyn POV~
When I went back to the house my sister and I had rented for the past three years, it was empty. My sister hasn't come home yet. She didn't answer my calls earlier which is unusual of her.
Then my phone rang once. I received a new message. I quickly checked the message only to receive bad news. In her message, my sister said that she's not coming home anymore. She is eloping with her new boyfriend of three weeks!
A wave of dread washed over me.
How is this happening?
She was eloping with the boyfriend that she had never introduced to me?
Where to find her and her boyfriend? That's my biggest concern. I need to get my sister back!
What is this guy's name and his residence address?
I rushed to my sister's room and searched for anything that could lead me to my sister and her boyfriend's whereabouts.
I didn't find anything!
My anxiety shoots through the roof. I need to find my sister! She's still 16 years old. She could have eloped with the wrong guy and I don't want to see in the news that a body was found dead, mutilated beyond recognition floating in the river somewhere.
Thinking about the consequences of my sister's actions terrifies me. She mentioned meeting an emo guy in her friend’s party and they clicked perfectly well together. That was just three weeks ago. Too early to know if the guy can be trusted or not.
Besides, she is underage for God's sake!
My sister is too naive and too reckless! Anxiety and anger exploded in my veins. I picked a book from the desk and hurled it on the floor to release my frustration. Then a small piece of paper came out of the book and I picked it up. It was my sister's handwriting. She wrote an address on it and a message saying I love to stay in this magnificent house one day.
I stared at the house address. It was situated outside the city.
It doesn't matter, I need to see that house to know if my sister has been there! It's the only lead I can find as of the moment.
I left the house in a hurry, rode a train on the train station, heading to the location specifically written on the paper.
After the half an hour journey. Outside the train station, I flagged a taxi and instructed the driver to bring me to the address.
When we arrived at our destination, I gave the driver my fare and got out of the taxi. The property was far from other houses, it was an isolated area.
The gate was massive in front of me, and I couldn't see anything behind the gate. But I heard noises coming from the inside. It looks like there was some gathering happening inside.
I walked to the guard house and asked one of the guards there. "Sir, can I talk to the owner of the house? I just want to know if my sister has come here?" I asked politely.
The guard looked at me for a moment and replied, "Miss, this place is off limits to outsiders. We have a party going on inside. Go home!" he said in a hard voice.
"But I just want to talk to the owner. My sister is missing and she wrote the address on this piece of paper saying she wanted to live here. I think she and her boyfriend are attending this party right now. I just want to see if she's here. I need to talk to her, right now!" I insisted, looking at the log book he was holding in his right hand.
"Miss, you are wasting your time. Your sister is not here. Go home!" he ordered.
"Can you please check on the logbook if my sister's name was on it? Please?" I requested in a pleading tone.
"Fine. What is her name?" he finally relented, opening the log book.
"Her name is Rebecca Simmons," I responded, scanning the log book he opened in front of me.
That's when I saw my sister's name. She had written her name on the log book, which means she's inside the property with her boyfriend right now, attending the party. Huge relief washed over me.
The guard abruptly closed the logbook and said, "You are wasting your time. She's not here. Leave now."
"You lied to me. I saw my sister's name in the logbook! She wrote her name. I saw it!" I declared in a loud voice.
Realizing that he can't deny the truth anymore, the guard released a deep sigh. "She's inside but you can't enter the property without the owner's permission," he finally said.
I pleaded, "Can you please inform your boss about my sister's presence in his house?"
He shook his head, turning a deaf ear to my plea.
"Please let me in. I promise you; I only want to see my sister and bring her home. I'm worried about her. She's underage, a naive 16 years old," I begged in a pleading tone.
"You can't enter the property, Miss," the guard refused in a hard tone.
"Who says I'm going to enter the house? Just tell your boss to find my sister and then bring her to me so I can take her home. Easy right?" I said convincingly.
Despite my pleading, he ignored me.
I was mad that he's not giving in to my simple request. "I'm not leaving this place without my sister! If you don't release my sister, I will contact the authority and bring the cops here at your doorsteps!" I threatened him openly, annoyed that he's making things harder for me.
The mention of cops makes his eyes glimmer with murderous intention. He looked at me, smirking. "You have no idea what kind of place this is and what's going on inside the house right now! Do you really want to see your sister? She's probably dead right now," he said devilishly, his eyes turning red instantly.
Oh no, he's not human! Paralyzing terror gripped me hard. A wave of dread washed over me.
No. My sister can't be dead!
His words dropped like a bomb on my head, shattering my senses, sending me into a fit of shock, horror and disbelief.
"W-What did you say? My sister is dead? Repeat it again!" I shouted hysterically at his face.
The other guard who was silent the whole time, interjected, "Calm down, Miss. Your sister is not dead yet. I already informed Master Jake, the owner of the house about your purpose in coming here. He's coming down to welcome you. Please wait patiently," he told me in a calm voice.
I feel tense. I can feel it.
Something dangerous is happening inside the house and my sister's life is in danger! I need to inform the cops now!
But before I could type anything on my phone, the annoying guard snatched the phone from my hand. I glared at him. "Give me back my phone!" I demanded furiously.
"Not unless my boss says so. I know you are going to call the cops. It's just a precaution, Miss," the guard explained.
All of a sudden, a small door opened on the right side of the massive gate. A tall, dark, good looking guy wearing a black suit stepped outside. His piercing blue eyes sweep over me, giving me a once over. He has an electrifying aura around him, giving me a chill on my spine.
He came straight towards me and said, "Hello Miss. My name is Jake Pascal, the owner of this property. I have been monitoring what's happening outside the gate and hear everything you said to my guards. So you are looking for your sister Rebecca?" he asked calmly. His voice was smooth and gentle to my ears.
"Yes, please I need to see my sister!" I said urgently.
"No problem, come inside so you will see your sister," he said, smiling a bit.
I stared at his face for a few seconds, there's something about him that can't be trusted. He is a perfect stranger to me. And this place seems not safe to enter.
"W-what's happening inside? Is there a party?" I inquired.
"Yes, there is a wild party happening inside my property. And your sister is enjoying the party right now. You want to join her?" he said in an inviting tone.
I hesitated for a moment when I heard him mention wild parties. Should I just call the cops now and let them deal with these guys instead of me entering the property? What should I do?
He saw the hesitation in my eyes and said, "Miss, do you want to see your sister or not? Time is running out for you and her," he said, his tone sounds deadly.
"W-what do you mean?" I asked, my voice trembled in fear.
"Because we are going to sacrifice your sister and use her precious blood to awaken our ancestor, the most powerful vampire that ever walked on this planet," one of the guards joked, laughing in amusement.
My eyes widened in shock and horror.
Vampires!
That's it. That explains their odd behavior. Dammit! I'm surrounded by bloodthirsty vampires.
"Shut up! Don't be rude to our visitors!" Jake glared at the laughing guards.
They shut up, scared of their boss.
Then he shifted his attention to me. "Come with me, Miss. I'll take you inside," he ordered calmly, extending his hand.
This is scary, I'm in the vampire's territory! I need to escape!
But before I could do anything to escape, Jake waved his hand on my face and pitch darkness engulfed my whole being.
Before I fell to the ground, he catches me. I fainted in his arms and his handsome dangerous face was the last thing I saw before darkness took over my consciousness.
