Chapter 4
Seeing my cold face, Joanna slammed her hand on the table and demanded, "Marvin, are you trying to mess with me?"
I didn't want to waste any more words and just turned my head away indifferently. "Think what you want. Pack your things as soon as possible and leave my house."
Realizing I was determined to break up this time, Joanna gritted her teeth and pointed at me. "Marvin, you begged me like a lapdog back then, which is why I moved in.
"You're kicking me out today, but don't come crying and begging me to come back!"
Joanna easily hit my weak spot.
Indeed, when I pursued her back then, I was so servile and lacked any dignity.
I secretly admired her for four years. It was only after college graduation, when Max went abroad, that I finally had a chance to get closer to her.
Even though Joanna was disheartened and depressed due to Max's departure, I still found ways to cheer her up every day, from the time we met to falling in love...
I naively believed I had slowly warmed Joanna's heart.
Even though I knew deep down that Max's shadow still lingered in Joanna's heart, I was willing to wait until she completely let go of the past and fully accepted me.
However, today, I finally woke up from my dream.
That so-called happy ending was just my own fantasy. The pain in my chest brought tears to my eyes.
Seeing this, Joanna looked at me with a complicated expression, and her tone softened. "Marvin, are you alright?"
I stubbornly wiped away my tears. Seeing this, Joanna started to walk over to hug me.
"Don't take it to heart; I thought you were just joking. Let's not dwell on it..."
Seeing Joanna approach, I pushed her away as if electrocuted, then retreated several steps.
"I don't want to see you again. Leave!"
After I vented my emotions, my tears stopped.
Seeing my disgust towards her, Joanna lost her composure, picked up a photo frame, and smashed it fiercely on the ground.
"Marvin, you've got nerve!"
She then rushed into the room, quickly packed her luggage, and left without looking back.
She didn't take any of the things I bought for her.
After all, with Max to rely on now, she wouldn't care for anything I bought.
After Joanna left, I stood stunned in the room for a long time, then dialed a number I hadn't contacted in a while.
On the other end of the phone, my younger sister, Claire Parker, quickly answered, teasing, "Marvin, have you finally come to your senses?"
She always understood me so well.
Hearing my sigh, Claire seemed to have guessed what was happening, her tone tinged with dissatisfaction.
"For that woman, you gave up your identity as the heir to the Parker Group and became a simp. Is it worth it?
"Even if you don't care about fame, wealth, or family assets, you shouldn't hurt Mom and Dad's feelings for such an illusory love!" Although Claire spoke without deference, I never blamed her.
Because everything she said was the truth.
To be with Joanna, I defied my entire family's opposition, even threatening to cut ties, just to gain the freedom to love.
Mom and Dad were so furious they almost fell ill, angrily declaring I was no son of theirs.
Although Claire didn't understand me, she ultimately couldn't bring herself to let go of me.
When I left home, she told me that I could reach out to her whenever I came to my senses, and she would help me communicate with my parents.
At this moment, looking at this messy home, I understood it was time to let go of this failed relationship.
I would make Joanna, this materialistic woman, regret her choice.
