My Gift Ruined His Wedding

Synopsis

"Break Georgette's legs. I want her in a wheelchair for the rest of her life." Zach Waters reclined in his office chair, idly rolling an unlit cigarette between his fingers. His voice was calm, as though he were discussing routine business. His assistant, Lawrence Cantrell, lingered at the doorway, silent. Zach looked up. "What? Is that unclear?" Lawrence swallowed. "Mr. Waters, Miss Georgette has withdrawn from the competition." Zach hesitated. "Withdrawn?" "She boarded a flight at dawn. Rands," Lawrence said, eyes fixed on the floor, "She also left a message. She said she's prepared a ‘grand gift' for you. And she wishes you and Miss Knight a happy marriage." Zach stubbed the cigarette into the ashtray. "A ‘grand gift'?" He gave a low, dismissive laugh, leaning back. "A woman cast out by her own family… what kind of gift could she possibly have to offer?"
