Everyone was stunned.

Sophie stared at my bald scalp.

My mom snapped out of it first. She ran over and hugged me, sobbing. "Emily, your hair..."

I pushed her away gently.

I looked at Michael's shocked and confused face. "Surprised? I have leukemia. Late stage."

The doctor said I had six months left, max.

I pulled a folded diagnosis paper from my pocket and threw it in Michael's face.
