Chapter 5

The video continued.

Her hand remained against Daniel’s face as if she had every right to comfort him in the bed we shared.

“You’ve done enough,” she whispered. “You deserve to breathe too.”

Then she kissed the corner of his mouth.

Daniel stiffened.

He didn’t kiss her back.

He didn’t push her away either.

Sloane stayed against him, waiting.

Daniel closed his eyes again.

The video ended.

For several seconds, I stared at the frozen screen.
