Chapter 3
The next morning, as we were getting ready to head out, Sophie was sitting on the couch, her eyes red and puffy.
Grace deliberately teased her, "You've been acting weird since last night. Don't tell me you're upset just because we're getting our wedding photos taken?"
Sophie tried to blink away the tears and managed a shaky smile.
"Of course not! Grace, I'm really happy for you," she said.
I raised an eyebrow and nodded, smiling as I invited her.
"Then come with us and help me pick out my wedding dress," I said.
Sophie waved her hand. "You two go ahead, I won't join you for the wedding photos."
I pursed my lips, pretending to be upset.
"Sophie, if you keep saying no, I'm gonna be really sad," I said, making a face.
"Fine, I'll go with you," she grumbled, finally giving in.
Sophie slowly got up, looking reluctant.
Jonathan clicked his tongue in annoyance, got up, and walked out.
"I'll wait for you downstairs," he called over his shoulder.
When we got to the bridal shop, I picked out a few dresses that caught my eye.
When I stepped out of the fitting room, Jonathan barely looked at me and mumbled a half-hearted, "Looks nice."
Sophie nudged Jonathan's arm and shot him an annoyed look.
"Seriously, say something nice! Grace looks absolutely stunning today," she insisted.
I kept my face calm, but deep down, I felt sick to my stomach.
I said nonchalantly, "Do you like it? If you do, why not try it on yourself?"
"Do you like it? If you do, why not try it on yourself?" I added, my tone casual and a little sarcastic.
I just wanted to make her uncomfortable.
Jonathan suddenly looked up from his phone.
He chimed in, sounding amused, "Yeah, Sophie, go ahead and try it on."
"Yeah, Sophie, go ahead and try it on," he said.
Sophie grinned and went straight for the same wedding dress I was wearing, making sure it matched mine exactly.
She went all out, adding the veil and crown, every detail, just like mine.
When she stepped out, she gave Jonathan a shy, expectant glance.
Jonathan stared at her, as if I'd vanished from the room.
I cleared my throat and made an excuse to go to the restroom, heading for the corner.
