The first call I made rang five times before someone picked up.

"Mara, it’s Maeve."

A two-second pause hung on the line, followed by a cautious intake of breath. "Maeve? Oh, my god, I’ve been meaning to reach out to you. What happened to my dress? Is it still at the boutique?"

"It’s in Vale & Vow’s new collection," I said without beating around the bush. "The launch is in two weeks. The wild roses on the hem and the hidden name sewn into the petals—that design was originally made for you."
