Chapter 2
Celia clutched her chest, tears welling in her eyes. "Damian, I felt the same way back then. I couldn't breathe, and I thought I'd never see you again.
"I really can't bear to see her suffer. Maybe we should just let it go. I just want Marie to apologize to me."
I forced down a cough and locked eyes with Celia. "You said you were allergic to milk, but you had a cup of milk in your hand that day. Weren't you enjoying it?"
Damian looked at Celia, his expression complicated and hard to read.
Celia's tears streamed down her face. She grabbed a knife from the table, about to hurt herself. "Marie, please don't be mad. From now on, I'll do whatever you say. I'll never argue with you again."
Damian quickly snatched the knife from Celia's hand and pulled her into a tight embrace.
He turned to me, and when he saw I showed no remorse, his face went cold. "I always knew you were selfish, but turns out you're also a liar.
"Celia is seriously allergic to milk. Everyone on set knows that. Are you saying her acting is so good that she could even trick me, the best actor?"
As Damian frowned, one of the bodyguards noticed his expression and quietly stepped forward to ask. "The hornet nest you wanted is ready. It's in the trunk of the van. Should I bring it over now?"
I stared at Damian in shock.
Did he seriously forget about my trauma with hornets?'
Last year, Damian brought me along to the rainforest with the crew for filming. My job was to take care of him.
While filming a scene, he tried to make it pop by knocking fruit off a tree with a stick, but ended up accidentally knocking down a hornet nest.
I helped him get away by throwing my jacket over him, but I got stung instead. I ended up swollen and bruised all over from the hornets.
Back then, Damian was so torn up about it that he couldn't sleep a wink. He held me while I was lying in the hospital bed. He was crying his eyes out, swearing he'd never let me get hurt again.
However, now, just for Celia, he was actually using hornets to threaten me, trying to make me beg her for forgiveness.
The nurse tending to Celia looked uneasy and finally couldn't hold back.
She said, "Mr. Glover, hornets are really dangerous. Plus, she's already struggling to breathe because of her pollen allergy. If anything goes wrong, it could be fatal."
Damian looked over at me, who was sprawled on the floor, hesitating for a moment.
My asthma was already flaring up. Any more stress could be dangerous.
Celia wiped her tears, grabbed Damian's hand, and pretended to be a kind person. "It's okay, Damian. I only broke a leg. If she doesn't want to apologize, just forget it."
Damian glanced at Celia's leg in a cast, then spun around, glaring at the bodyguard and barking out his orders.
He said, "What are you waiting for? I told you to bring it over now. If you don't want this job, then get out of here."
The bodyguard looked pretty grim, but there was nothing he could do. His whole family depended on Damian for their livelihood.
Before long, the bodyguard came back carrying a glass box.
The moment I heard that angry buzzing, despair flooded me.
The hornets, lured by the sweet scent on me, came straight for me. Their stings dug into my skin, sending waves of pain and cold sweat over my forehead. I bit my lips hard to stop myself from screaming.
I tried to struggle with all my strength, but the tape held me completely still.
My skin was already a mess from the allergy, and now the venom made it go numb, except for the burning, throbbing pain that kept stabbing at my nerves.
My eyes were bloodshot as I shot Damian and Celia a vicious glare.
I said, "I'll make sure you both pay for this. Damian, karma is coming for you."
