The red recording light came on.

Nora sat across from me with the interview sheet on her lap. A small camera stood beside her chair.

“This is just a recorded pre-interview,” she said. “Elena Voss. Question Three.”

She looked down at the page.

“When Marcus taught Iris to ride her bike that Sunday afternoon in April, what did that moment show you about the kind of father he was?”

“It wasn’t Sunday,” I said.

Nora looked up.

“It was Wednesday. March eighteenth, 2015.”

I opened my handbag and took out the 2015 calendar.

“Marcus was in Denver that week.”
