Julian looked at me with an innocent face. "I wouldn't dare disobey."

I scoffed silently. Didn't dare? He was the literal Grim Reaper. What could he possibly be afraid of?

Julian's eyes danced with amusement. "They are your colleagues. I wouldn't dare offend them."

That shut me up. Feeling Scarlett's piercing gaze on my back, I stiffly suggested we go eat.

"Great," Julian replied instantly. "Let's go to that steakhouse to celebrate!"

"A steak dinner is perfect," Scarlett chimed in, pushing us further down the hall. "Chloe loves a good steak."

Fair enough. My feet started moving toward the exit…
