Chapter 5

At six the next morning, the little red light on the camera switched on. I rolled over and kept sleeping. At seven, someone knocked on the door.

A crew member called out, "Ms. Lane, time to get up. The breakfast challenge has started."

I opened my eyes, sat up, and yawned right at the camera. "Morning. Go watch my husband cook. I need a little more sleep."

The cameraman froze, probably never having seen a guest this checked out. I ignored him, lay back down, and pulled the blanket over myself.

From the kitchen next door came a nonstop racket.…
