Chapter 1
I treated the amnesiac Adam Blackwood like a clueless puppy and bullied him for fun.
Every day, I tricked him into kissing me, made him let me feel up his abs, and watched him blush and beg me to stop teasing.
I figured, since he'd lost his memory, I'd bolt the moment he recovered.
Then one night, after we'd already been bonded as mates in front of the pack elders, I heard him in the bathroom, laughing coldly on the phone.
He said, "Drop the act? Without the act, would she ever have come crawling into my arms?
"So what if it's scheming? As long as I get to keep her chained to my side, I'd happily play the fool for the rest of my life."
I stood at the door, staring at the pregnancy test in my hand, completely numb.
Was it too late to run now?
*****
Adam was awake.
When the news reached me, I was crouched at the side of a road in Blackwood Pack territory, eating a sandwich.
He was my childhood friend, and also the one who'd lorded over me my entire life as the heir of Blackwood Pack.
Half a month ago, he'd had an accident.
When I rushed to the healing den, Adam was sitting up in the hospital bed, head wrapped in thick gauze. He sat there, lost in thought.
He looked at me, tilted his head, his voice cold but laced with confusion. "Who are you?"
I froze.
The healer said it was traumatic amnesia, and his cognitive function might be slightly affected too. In plain language, he'd gone simple.
I stared at that ridiculously handsome face, and the little devil that had been dormant in my heart for years suddenly started doing a wild victory dance.
Adam, oh Adam, your day has finally come.
I set down my half-eaten sandwich, wiped my mouth, put on my most heartbroken expression, and threw myself straight into his arms.
I cried, "Adam, you actually forgot me."
I sobbed pitifully, conveniently wiping my snot on his expensive healing gown.
Adam's body went stiff in an instant.
His hands hovered in the air, as if he wanted to push me away but couldn't quite bring himself to.
"I'm your girlfriend." I lifted my head, my expression so sincere I almost believed myself. "We've been dating for three years. Just yesterday, you said you'd buy me that limited-edition handbag. Did you forget all of that?"
Adam's brows knit together, his eyes full of self-doubt. "Girlfriend?"
"Yes." I nodded with absolute conviction. "You love me the most. You used to kiss me a hundred times a day. You said you couldn't even fall asleep without kissing me."
Adam's face turned crimson all the way to his ears.
Those eyes that were usually filled with frost now held a trace of bashfulness.
"Was I really that pathetic before?" he muttered.
I was howling with laughter inside, but kept my pitiful pout on display.
I complained, "You're calling that pathetic? Adam, you've changed. You used to call me sweetheart."
Adam was completely thrown.
He looked at me, his throat bobbing, and after a long moment squeezed out a single word. "Sorry."
I was practically high on triumph inside.
Adam, weren't you always so capable before?
Didn't you always mock me for being short and slow-witted?
Now look at you, sitting perfectly in the palm of my hand.
I brought Adam back to Blackwood Pack house.
Or more accurately, I brought him back to his Blackwood Pack house.
Since I was now his girlfriend, my living here was obviously natural.
