Grandpa just stared at the doctor, frozen in shock. Neither of them could say a thing.

I was counting the days on my fingers.

Popping out from behind the chair, I exclaimed with excitement, "How'd you know Mom was gonna go into 'hibernation'?

"Only two months till spring, and she'll wake right up then!"

The doctor managed a faint smile. "Yeah, come spring, your mom... she'll pull through."

Ryan placed his large hand on my shoulder and mumbled, "So that's what they mean by hibernation."
