Chapter 7

Nathan was standing at the door.

He was wearing a dark gray shirt today, and he looked a bit more haggard than yesterday. "Come out for a minute."

I hesitated for a moment, then got up and followed him out.

At the end of the hallway, he stopped.

He turned around and looked at me, silent.

"Mr. Bennett," I started, "about what happened yesterday..."

"That money," he interrupted me, "you don't have to pay it back."

I opened my mouth, but couldn't find the words.

"I know you'll want to pay it back," he said, "but you don't have to."
