Chapter 2
Emily froze for a moment, then laughed even louder. "The heiress of Johnson Holdings? Seriously?"
Emily scoffed, "Please, I'm the woman in charge of Johnson Holdings. How come I've never even heard of some so-called heiress?
"First you try to pull a stunt with my husband and fail, and now you want to pretend you're the heiress of Johnson Holdings? Girl, you really are asking for trouble."
I was honestly a bit taken aback.
I can't believe Andrew never told her about this.
After all, Johnson Holdings is owned by the Johnson Group.
And I'm the only blood heir of the Johnson Family.
Years ago, my parents died in an accident, and Grandpa, feeling sorry for me, sent me to live with my uncle's family when I was little.
Even though Andrew is my cousin, we've always been close, and I've always seen him as my real brother.
On the surface, my uncle's family might look like they're running Johnson Holdings, but behind the scenes, I'm the real heir.
The whole reason I agreed to help Andrew was so I could get familiar with how things are going at each branch ahead of time.
But I never imagined the management at Andrew's branch would be such a disaster.
Seeing me stay silent, Emily's face turned bright red with rage. "You've got some nerve glaring at me.
"Even my husband wouldn't dare look at me like that, and you, a homewrecker, think you can do whatever you want?"
With that, she grabbed my hair hard. "Don't think you can boss me around because my husband has a thing for you.
"In his heart, I'm always the real Mrs. Monroe.
"It's always the main wife's call how to deal with the mistress."
Pain surged through me. I tried to pull away, yelling, "That's enough. Let go of me, or I'm calling the cops."
But Emily yanked my hair even harder. "Who do you think you are, calling the cops?"
Emily snarled, "You're nothing but a homewrecker, trying to seduce someone else's husband. If the cops show up, they'll be dragging you away, not me.
"Let me make this clear. Around here, I'm the one calling the shots."
"If I don't kick you out of here today, I'll change my last name."
The other employees in the office were all huddled in the corners; not a single one dared to step in and stop her.
Instead, they shot me dirty looks and whispered among themselves.
"Who doesn't know Mrs. Monroe is Mr. Monroe's pride and joy? After any social event, he always comes back to the office to change into clean clothes before heading home," someone said.
"Didn't some airheaded receptionist try to seduce Mr. Monroe before? Mrs. Monroe shot him a glance, and he fired her right away," another echoed.
"This girl's got some guts. Maybe she's pregnant, that's why she's bold enough to show up and try to take over," someone else chimed in.
When Emily heard the word "pregnant," she was stunned, like she'd been struck by lightning.
She suddenly spun around and stared at my stomach. "Pregnant? That's impossible."
Honestly, I was just as freaked out as she was.
The thing is, I really am pregnant. My fiance, Lucas Sinclair, is Andrew's best friend and the heir of the Sinclair Circle.
He's planning to come with me to Grandpa's place in a few days to discuss our wedding plans.
Right now, he's downstairs waiting for me.
I clutched my stomach, panic rising. "Don't you dare."
Emily saw my reaction and went ballistic, screaming, "You really think being pregnant means my husband loves you? You're wrong.
"My husband's afraid I'll get jealous if I have a daughter, and that a son will take away the love I have for him. That's why he won't let me have children."
With that, she shoved me hard into the chair, snarling, "Tie her up."
I scrambled to my feet, desperate to protect my baby. "If you don't want me working here, fine, I'll leave."
"Leave?" Emily shoved me right back down, her voice dripping with venom. "Aren't you here to show off how you managed to steal my husband?"
Emily sneered, "I'd love to see if he still likes you when you're looking like a total wreck."
