Chapter 4

I didn't return to the home Rufus and I shared after our wedding.

Instead, I went back to my parents' home.

But as I stood outside my own door, my hand resting on the doorknob, I couldn't bring myself to knock.

My parents had always loved each other deeply. After my dad passed away, my mom fell into depression, and her health started to go downhill.

If it weren't for her worrying about me, she might have given up on life a long time ago.

Showing up out of the blue like this would definitely make her worry.
