The warm air from the car heater slowly brought feeling back to Dorothy's numb fingers.

"Scott, I'm filing for divorce. This is the last time we'll see each other," Dorothy said, her voice steady but cold.

The car fell silent, but Scott sidestepped the subject. "Since you've quit your job, why not come work at my company?

"You're talented. Honestly, police work never suited you. The company really needs someone like you right now.
