Chapter 6
We never did get to eat that dinner.
I ignored Charles and went straight for Emily. "Don't bother coming over for dinner anymore. You're not welcome here."
"You know exactly why."
I didn't sugarcoat it.
Anyone with a shred of self-respect would get what I meant.
If she'd ever done anything to betray me, she'd know exactly what I was talking about.
That day, Emily ran out of my house in tears.
Charles chased after her and never came back.
I knew he was taking her side, but honestly, I didn't care anymore.
On Children's Day, Lily's kindergarten had a performance.
Charles didn't show up for Lily, but ended up playing "dad" for Sam instead.
Lily spotted him first, her face lighting up as she pointed into the crowd.
"Mom, that's Dad." she said.
I took Lily and walked over to the so-called "family of three," in time to see someone pat Charles on the shoulder.
The one asked, "Charles, Emily, wow, it's really you two, So you're together now?"
"I know Emily got divorced, but Charles, when did you and Olivia split up?"
I pushed through the crowd, a faint smile on my lips. "We're not divorced yet, but those two? Oh, they're definitely together."
