Lucien’s apartment was a world apart from mine—high above the city, glass and steel stretching into the night like the bones of some ancient predator. Rain streaked the floor-to-ceiling windows, blurring neon lights into rivers of color. My breath fogged the glass as Lucien pressed me against it, the city sprawling below us, anonymous and unseeing, but I felt exposed in ways that had nothing to do with the view.
